Statement of Significance

The site is significant for its association with early method of transport of people, produce and stock.

Physical Description

It is situated in a creek on a 160 acres homestead block (Knott/McDonald) which was run in conjunction with Kunmallup. The northern boundary was fenced with a post and rail fence. (Probably demolished when in poor state by John Carter 1960's). The old sandalwood track ran close by (to the north 30-80m) taking travellers via Kunmallup to Martup Pool and the King George's Sound Road. The soak has been excavated and is now not in its original condition. Seepage areas occur to the north and some distance further down the gully soaks excavated by Carter have provided a constant supply of quality water. During the rabbit plague in the early 50's the soak was fenced off with 4 inlets to the water. One the first night 200 pairs (400 rabbits) were trapped inside.
