The place is significant for the following values: Historic Value: The school has historical significance as the first school built in Burekup. Social Value: The primary school has social significance to the community for its long association with Burekup settlement.
The former building was a good example of a small single room country school designed by the Public Works Department, representative of Education in the years 1911-13. The former building was constructed out of timber with a corrugated metal roofing. The building was designed with heating and cooling vents and a long skillion verandah. There were a number of additions to the former building to enlarge the building and enclose the verandah. The school was closed in 1997 and the original building demolished due to termite damage. The new River Valley Primary School was opened in 1999 due to strong community lobbying against the initial proposal to not rebuild the school and bus students to Bunbury.
Constructed: 29 January 1913 (new School 1999)
Alterations/Integrity: Fair Authenticity: Good
