The site of the Green Grove homestead has historic significance for its connection to the settlement of the Irwin district. The place is unusual in that it was the only known established house on the coastal lands between Dongara and Eneabba prior to the 1960s.
The ruins of Green Grove homestead are located on the west side of Brand Highway just north of the entrance to Green Grove farm. All that remains of the homestead is a piece of stone wall to the east and a section of concrete block wall and chimney to the north. The former shows evidence of skilled masonry with precise coursing. The latter was constructed to house a Metters wood stove. Located immediately to the north of the ruin is a filled in well. To the west is a row of eucalypts. 2004 Not visited.
The house was believed to have been built by William Downes in the 1890s who also farmed the property consisting of Victoria Locations 2442 and 2525. In 1922 it was the home of Alderwyn Downes, son of William. (The Downes family also lived at Six Chimneys, Place No.103) In 1942 the property was owned by Jack Becker and was later sold to N. C. Summers.
