Susan Gabriel Kinsella was the first known resident nurse in the district and was responsible for acting as a midwife to many births, including Dot Klecman's mother in 1922. which is listed on her birth certificate.(A copy is available). Nurse Kinsella was an identity clearly marked in the memory of old pioneers with great respect. Her duties covered all aspects of sickness including the extraction of teeth with no pain killers at all. She also had to deal with serious outbreaks of diseases such as 'Spanish' influenza and diptheria which reached epidemic levels in 1919. She was a reassurance to many people confined to the area with no means of transport.
The grave of Nurse Kinsella is situated right near the entry of the cemetery and has no headstone or reference. Nurse Kinsella was the first person buried in the cemetery when it was gazetted in 1933.
