26090 Holland/Forrest Street Heritage Area
House, 35 Holland Street is a single storey brick and Colorbond roof house constructed in the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are rendered painted brick. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with Colorbond. There is a rendered brick chimney evident. There is one street facing gable, and one side gable. The gables have timber battens, and under the side gable is an awning supported by timber brackets, over a window. The separate verandah is supported on metal columns which are not original. There is no fence to the front boundary line.
The house at 35 Holland Street is on one half of Lot 1012 and was built in the 1909/10 rate period. The owner and occupier was William Dobson Knox. The other part of the lot was originally owned by Arthur Graham Knox and was vacant until a house was built in 1914/15 (No. 37), which seemed to be identical in plan to No. 35. The house was originally number 46, and became number 35 when the whole street was renumbered in 1937. In 1910/11 Arthur S Kewley was the owner and Knox the occupier. From 1912 Arthur S. Kewley was the main resident. Mrs Margaret J. Kewley was still the resident in 1949 (when post office directory records cease). The 1914 Sewerage Plan (No 2033) shows a brick house of an asymmetrical shape, with a verandah that runs along the street front and wraps around on the east side. There was also a verandah at the back with steps leading down to the yard.
Condition assessed as fair (assessed from streetscape survey only).
