Statement of Significance

Formerly, the place had aesthetic value for its contribution to the Yarloop heritage area. Formerly, the place had demonstrated the standard type of housing provided for mill workers by their employers.

Physical Description

Small simple cottage of timber framed construction with weatherboard cladding. The roof is shallow pitched in gable form, clad in corrugated galvanised iron with a chimney extending up the side of the building and projecting above the ridge line. The cottage is asymmetric in presentation with two timber framed sashes to the west of the door and one to the east. The sashes are 6-over-6 in design. A shallow pitched skillion verandah canopy supported on timber columns with timber balustrading extends across the front of the property. Destroyed by January 2016 Yarloop/Harvey/Waroona Fire. Replacement dwelling built in 2018, has no cultural heritage significance.

History

One of the timber cottages built in the townsite for the accommodation of workers from the workshops. The houses were built predominantly by the company which owned and managed the town, Millar's Timber and Trading Company from the 1890s to the 1970s. The materials for the cottages were likely to have been manufactured in the workshop and local tradesmen built the homes to a standard design. This building was burnt down by the January 2016 Yarloop/Harvey/Waroona Fire. The Chimney was left standing however has was deemed structurally unsound and was subsequently removed.
