Municipal Inventory | Adopted | 18 Sep 2000 | Level 2 |
The place is of landmark significance in the Beaconsfield area, as a rare example of a residence in the late Twentieth Century International style. Its eclectic collection of signage and wall writing indicate its owner's concerns with local political issues. Note: The Fremantle City Council resolved at its 23. 07.2001 meeting that: "Council recognises that future development applications in relation to no. 20 Moran Street should not be in any way prejudiced by any reference to graffiti or signage on the building".
This lot was recorded as vacant in 1950. The residence is located in perhaps 'the' prime position in South Fremantle, at the top of the Beard/Moran streets hill. It is built in the Late Twentieth Century International Style circa 1960s of face concrete with a modular arrangement of windows on the southern and western sides. The 'Modernist' nature of the residence is perhaps a singular example in the study area. The owner has used the building as a platform/banner for his dealings with the City of Fremantle over various issues. By the decision of the Fremantle City Council of the 23/07/01 this place was retained on the Municipal Heritage Inventory on a permanent basis and be increased from Level 3 to Level 2.
