The place is associated with the Plunkett family, a well known family in the West Australian building industry. The place is a good representative example of the Federation Bungalow style.
Physical Description
.1910 brick and iron dwelling in the Federation Bungalow style, with a hipped roof and street facing gable. Features a deep verandah surrounding the front rooms, supported by timber posts. Comprises four bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen,, family room, bathroom and enclosed rear verandah containing a laundry and additional WC. The house is on lot 4, but the block of land covers a total of four lots.
History
The place was constructed c.1910 and has been continually occupied or owned by the Plunkett family. Thomas Scott Plunkett, who occupied the property c.1911-1934, established the company T.S. Plunkett in 1903. With his son Charles and grandson Thomas, the company was instrumental in the residential development of My Hawthorn and North Perth in the 1920s and 30s, and they also operated Plunkett's Joinery in Smith Street c.1913-1980s. The company pioneered the display home concept in Western Australia and established several display home "villages". The company still operates as Plunkett Homes and is well known in the domestic building market. Members of the Plunkett family resided at the place until at least 1949 but no information from after this time has been provided.
