Statement of Significance

High social and historic significance being the first and only remaining hotel established at Jarrahdale. It has some landmark value in its prominent position, but modern extensions, adaptions and choice of fabric have detracted from the original building and limits aesthetic appeal. Consideration to be given in its association with the historic Jarrahdale townsite.

Physical Description

A spreading, single-storey hotel building incorporating original hotel (east) and modern extension (west) with an extensive flat roofed verandah. Set into the hillside at the western entrance to the town, overlooking a grove of trees to the creek below.

History

The hotel was first licensed in December 1886 as the Murray Arms Hotel. It was licensed to Thomas Howe, the postmaster's brother, although because of his young age, the license was actually taken out by his mother.

Integrity/Authenticity

Modifications- A modern extension has been made to the west side of the building.

Condition

Fair-Good
