19882 McDowell Street Precinct
Formerly, the place had aesthetic value for its contribution to the Yarloop heritage area. Formerly, the place demonstrated the standard type of housing provided for mill workers by their employers.
Timber framed cottage with weatherboard cladding. The gable roof is clad in corrugated metal with metal flue extending up the southern elevation and to the ridge line. The skillion roofed verandah canopy is supported on timber columns with enclosing timber picket balustrade. The façade to the cottage is symmetrical formed by a regular patter of window-door-window-door-window. The windows are timber framed sashes with two of the openings being 6-over-6 style with the southernmost opening being 4-over-4 style. Both doors are timber panelled doors. The garden is enclosed by a timber picket fence. Destroyed by January 2016 Yarloop/Harvey/Waroona Fire.
One of the simple timber cottages built in the townsite for the accommodation of workers at the workshops. The houses were built predominantly by the company which owned and managed the town, Millar's Timber and Trading Company from the 1890s to the 1970s. The materials for the cottages were likely to have been manufactured in the workshop and local tradesmen built the homes to a standard design. This building was burnt down by the January 2016 Yarloop/Harvey/Waroona Fire. The Chimney was left standing however has was deemed structurally unsound and was subsequently removed.
