History

The tavern project was an initiative of the local community who formed a consortium called Lake King Developments after a public meeting to investigate the feasibility of establishing a tavern/service station/motel in Lake King. After considerable lobbying, lots 164, 165, 166 on Varley Road were released by the government on the condition that no power or water would be supplied. In October 1987, the Premier Brian Burke opened the Lake King Tavern, by which time the adjacent 8 unit motel was almost complete. The motel included 1 unit for disabled people. The building was opened by the Member for Roe, Monty House, on 18 September 1988.
