Statement of Significance

The original residence is a representative example of a simply constructed cottage influenced by Georgian architecture in England.

Physical Description

The residence is a amply constructed building in a design influenced by Georgian architecture in England. The simple floor olan is rectangular. The exterior walls are of pointed, coursed rubble stone with brick quoins with rendered sills to '.he facade. The east wall is in brickwork. The building was designed as two rooms wide about a central doorway. The facade has a new concrete verandah floor now covered with a lean-to roof supported on galvanised-iron columns. Brick additions aid fibro-cement, weatherboard and ribbed metal clad additions have been added to extend the rear and side elevations. The office is accommodated in the side addition at the rear of the carport.

History

St George's Anglican Church was consecrated in 1902." Services were initially supplied by the rectors of Katanning. The Reverend F. Bowen was the first resident rector.1 Additions were made to the Rectory in 1914, increasing its size from the original two brick rooms and lean-to kitchen to the present size.2
