Historic for its association with the market gardening undertaken by Duffy family, who were prominent settlers in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Aesthetic significance as an example of a small weatherboard cottage. Social significance for its contribution to the community's sense of place.
The cottage is located adjacent to Lake Goolelal; setback 100m from Wanneroo Rd overlooking market gardens. It is a two room weatherboard cottage with an iron roof. The front verandah has been enclosed and an additional room and kitchen added to the rear. The additions are constructed with asbestos cladding.
Bill Duffy's grandfather built the residence for his youngest son, but there was parting of ways, and it was instead willed to another son Federick John Duffy (Bill's Father). Frederick was the first secretary of the Wanneroo Main Roads Board. Duffy family were prominent people at the time. Bernard Duffy and his wife Catherine Hughes leased acres at Swan Location 709 in 1877, the northern 20 arces of which he sold to Henry Gibbs. In 1903, Frederick Duffy, (Bernard's son) became the first secretary of the Wanneroo Roads Board and married daughter of Sam Cockman and grand daughter of James Cockman.
