01137 Central Greenough Front Flats (Historic Hamlet Conservation Area)
Good The former court house was constructed in 1867, police station and gaol, 1870. The single-storey building is of local limestone and has a shingled roof and verandahs to two sides. The cell block forms the south wing of an internal courtyard, which is completed by a high stone wall and tamarisk hedge on the north, and a major stables complex on the east. The couryard functioned as an exercise yard. Additions were made to the complex on the south side in 1873 to accommodate the telegraph office and post office. This imposing complex of civic buildings was the centre for government administration of the district for many years.
