The school was the original school for the whole district. Children from Kununurra were at first bussed from town out to the Research Station. This practice stopped when the town school was built in 1964. The school building is used to house displays of pioneer and current crops, demonstrating them to visitors from southern Australia who may be unfamiliar with tropical plants. It is also a good aid for teaching local children.
Set in the grounds of the station, the school house is a single room on modest pillars. It has a low pitched hipped roof of corrugated iron. The walls are asbestos. Surrounding the school house are many mature trees providing necessary shade for the tropical conditions.
