Statement of Significance

The building was used for many years as the Cranbrook Road Board Hall. It is a good example of a pioneer building in the district. It has been used for a number of purposes over the years. It housed the Public Library and at one time it was altered to accommodate a doctor's consulting and waiting rooms for which it it still used.

Physical Description

The former Road Board Office is a substantial building made of local stone with large cement quoins on the corners and around the windows. The walls are thick and the pitched gabled roof is corrugated iron. The front facade has a wooden ornamental gable and finial at the apex. A photograph taken in the 1940s shows it had timber additions to the rear, since replaced by brick additions.
