Aesthetic significance as an example of the Inter War Californian Bungalow style of architecture dating from the nineteen twenties and nineteen thirties. Historic significance as representation of changes in lifestyle that occurred in the Fremantle area following the end of World l.
Single storey face and rendered brick and tile hipped roof house, has an attached brick residence on the west side and is set high and well back from the street. There is a prominent half timbered gable supporting the verandah with masonry columns onto piers between decorative low wall balustrades. The following places form a significant group and contribute to the streetscape of South Street 282, 263, 278 & 286.
In 1935/36 lots 5 & 6 of 43 were vacant lots owned by William Chadwick. On 19/11/1936 building plans were approved and passed by Council for the building of a brick residence to the value of £1,350 for W. Chadwick. It was erected by D. Drysdale.
