The school has a high level of social significance, being an essential part of the lives of the children of the town and representative of the confidence of the people living in the town. Although this is not the original school building, it still bears some historic significance it has links back to the original 1892 school and also in that it is the only school left in the town still operating. The establishment of the school is also associated with the opening of the timber industry in Jarrahdale which was the basis for the development of the Jarrahdale townsite. Part of the group of historic buildings in the historic Jarrahdale townsite.
The school has two sections - an older 2 roomed building in the front of the school, separated from a newer jarrah weatherboard, asbestos building by a large playing area. There is a new covered area.
In 1874, Jarrahdale's first school commenced under school master Mr J Harris. The school was located on the north bank of the Cooralong at the southern end of Brook Road. Unfortunately, the failure of the Wanliss Brothers resulted in the school being closed after only two years. In 1878, after many requests from Jarrahdale residents to the District Board of Education, the school reopened with teacher Thomas Berwick in charge. Owing to increasing enrolments, a new school house was built by Berwick on Jarrahdale Road. In 1892, this second school was replaced by another new three-roomed school on Cousens Street. In June 1954, this school burnt down, and the present primary and pre-school was erected in Wanliss Street.
