the place is one of the three most impressive monumental war memorials in Western Australia; since the 19th century, the place has been a popular lookout and beauty spot for both locals and visitors to Fremantle; the place is one of the most significant landmarks within Fremantle ; the place is held sacred by many people, in particular members of various ex-service organisations associated with the place. Since the erection of the first memorial in 1928 the place has been the chosen site both for various memorials commemorating other wars and for many commemorative ceremonies; the place has been the site of a main Fremantle land mark or trig point from before 1874
