The place has significant associations with Charlotte Simmons, referred to as Granny Simmons.
Timber framed and clad with a corrugated iron roof.
In 1864, Thomas and Charlotte Simmons settled in Boyanup with their young daughter having relocated from Bunbury. Their second child was the first child of European descent born in the district in 1866. The family had a cottage and grew vegetables and crops along the bank of the Preston River. Thomas was involved in the early timber industry. Mrs Charlotte Simmons catered tot he passing bullocks and timber cutters, and they established a livery stable and transit station for the mail coaches and contracting teamsters. Mrs Simmons was also the local midwife. In the 1920's, Granny Simmon's shop catered for things people forgot.
