The Chinese shops form an integral part of the whole historic Port Precinct. Built in the 1890s all four shops still standing are of historic significance because of their direct link to the Chinese history of Wyndham. Their age and building construction add both a scientific and aesthetic contribution to the historic port as a whole. Descendents of the original owners, such as the Lee Tong family, add significant social heritage value.
The Chinese shops line the western side of the historic Wyndliam Port town. Four of the original five buildings are still standing. The building technique is typically outback Chinese, (that is, built with whatever material came to hand) with additions added as required. All are in relatively poor condition and require fairly urgent maintenance. As part of the historic Port as a whole, it is imperative these buildings are retained.
Integrity: Nearly all original fabric intact Modifications: Some minor additions - some verandahs altered
Poor to very poor in some of the buildings
Precinct or Streetscape
