History

The street derives its name from John Stephen Hampton, the Governor from 1862-68, previously Comptroller of Convicts in Tasmania. His son, G. E. Hampton, was Acting Comptroller-General of the Fremantle Convict Establishment. Lot 168 of 134 does not appear on Sewerage Diagram 123, 1917. The rate book from 1920-21 shows vacant land owned by Mrs F A Harvey. By 1925-26 rate book there is a residence with owner/occupier as Lewis George Abbott.
