01901 West Perth Precinct
• The place has historic associations with the development of the West Perth area from the 1890s as a residential area.
West Perth developed as one of the most prestigious residential addresses of the Perth area in the 1890s. This was in part due to its location close to the city of Perth and its elevated position. Many of the prominent members of Perth society and business circle chose West Perth as their home. The City of Perth Draft MI indicates that the areas close to the railway were considered to be ‘less prestigious’ than streets such as Ord Street and Ventnor Avenue. In the Post World War Two period West Perth began to be redeveloped as a business district, an extension of the Perth CBD. It is during this period that a number of early residences were converted into offices and a number of new office blocks were constructed.
