The place has historic and social significance for its association with Tom Neaves who was an active community participant both in the Agricultural Society and the Road Board. The house also has historic significance as one of the earliest built in the area.
Tom Neaves House is located at Lot 56, 44 Via Vista Drive, Mariginiup on a semi rural property on the east.side of Via Vista Drive within the City of Wanneroo's Central Ward. The house is not easily visible from the road and sits behind a two storey recent house. There is a chimney on the eastern elevation of what appears to be a stone cottage which is possibly whitewashed or rendered. Information provided by CoW concludes that the house is a single storey limestone cottage and cgi hipped roof with a chimney on the external wall. (CoW)
Mariginiup is named after Mariginiup Lake. The lake name was recorded by surveyors in 1844, and a townsite was declared there in 1904. Tom Neaves married Nell Britain, daughter of Joseph who was in 1903 Post Office Directories listed as carrier. A photograph in the Western Mail dated May 19 1909 shows Thomas C. Neaves as one of the winners of the log chopping competition at the inaugural show of the Wanneroo Agricultural SocietyThomas Cooper Neaves was a Road Board Member for a total of 17 years between 1915 and 1949.
