The MullewaRecreation Ground has considerable historic and social value to Mullewa for the important role it has played in the sporting and social lives of the local community.
The sports and agricultural show grounds are located in an elevated position on the western edge of the town. Access is via Main Street into a carpark area, the main buildings are of brick construction with a flat and shallow gable roof and a large iron clad gable roofed building housing the indoor courts and facilities. Facilities constructed in the early 1980s comprise a sports oval, indoor basketball court, six tennis courts, four outdoor basketball courts, two squash courts and a gym. To the south of this complex is a partly open building containing animal pens, probably dating back to the early 1960s.
Initially sporting activities and events in Mullewa took place on the school playing fields, but by the 1960s a recreation ground was established on the present site. The first Agricultural Show in 1928 was held on grounds just out of town on the Pindar Road. In the early 1960s new buildings, exhibition facilities and stock yards were erected on the present site, which has become the agricultural and sporting centre of the community. The Complex was expanded in 1983 with the construction of new facilities. A plaque on a wall of the main building has the following inscription: "Stage 2 of this Centre was officiatly opened by The Hon. Keith Wilson, MLA on 23rd April 1983 (Mullewa Shire Councillors.
