The place is of aesthetic significance as an excellent example of architecture dating form the 1960's architecture is the City of Perth. The significance of the place is increased because it remains substantially intact.
A strongly sculptural masonry building. Stonewall base and feature wall. Rendered concrete glazed grid projecting to front elevation on mosaic tile column. Strong vertical elements to side street elevation.
West Perth developed as suburban residential area in the late 1890's. From its inception it had the characteristics of a quality neighbourhood. Proximity to the city centre and Kings Park (then known as Perth Park), and the elevated location which provided healthy site drainage as well as cooling breezes and views over the city and hills. The area had social status already associated with addresses in nearby Mount Street and access to the city's piped water system. The area was subdivided into large residential lots for development and proceed accordingly. Less prestigious areas also developed in lower parts of the area and adjacent to the railway. The building was used as an ANZ Bank, Markets branch in the from the late 1950s and into the 1970s. There were other businesses located in the area including a hotel and café suppliers and Ohlsson and Henderson a paint and hardware contractor, as well as a branch of the Bank of New South Wales.
High level of integrity. High level of authenticity as it is largely as originally constructed with detail intact.
