History

After 47 years from the first attempts tc get medical facilities in the district, the Varley Medical Centre was opened on 3 December 1976. It was initially established in Lake Varley as an experimental centre, with assistance from the Australian Assistance Plan. There is no information available as to whether there were other similar centres. The Centre remained in Varley and has been serviced by community health sisters and wives ol local farmers who are rostered on a 24 hour call basis. Most pharmaceutical's are available, or supplied from Lake Grace. The centre is staffed by a Nursing Sister five days a week, and the Royal Flying Doclor service once a fortnight.
