Has local significance for historic and aesthetic reasons, although there are probably better examples to illustrate the type externally, which is typical of original stone miner's cottages.
Stone cottage built by Cornish miners from the nearby Wanerenooka Mine (Site No. 42). The original form has been modified by hipped verandahs around the perimeter and fibro enclosures. The cottage, which is currently painted blue, would originally have been either natural stone or whitewashed.
Small settlements emerged around several of the mine sites, including the Wanerenooka Copper Mine. This settlement consisted of a number of stone buildings that were constructed from the 1860's on. In this locality in the 1890s and early 1900s there were 10 miner's cottages occuppied by the Cripps, Cairns, Evans, Gregory, Glass, Johnson, Lucas, Ridley, Shea and Murphy families. Most of the buildings have collapsed into little more than piles of stone, however, this cottage, like Site No's 45, 46, and 47, have survived as examples of miner's cottages from that period. This cottage was owned by Selena Johnson (1910/35 Rate Books).
