1. The building is strongly modelled and its use of dark stone and various contrasts of surface and colour give emphasis to its role as a major building within the precinct, particularly as one of the sequence of major buildings along the southern side. 2.The building has picturesque qualities and a liveliness notable in themselves but which contribute significantly to the visual interest of the Irwin St corner particularly as a contrast to the Y.A.L. building. 3. This building while of a very different character from others in the Precinct nonetheless maintains its compatibility with them, particularly those of its group - the two annexes and the Perth Chest Clinic. Note: the signing, clock and fire hydrant are handsome items of street furniture of this period.
150 ft frontage to Murray St x 40 ft (approx) in depth. Two storeys. Substantial brick masonry building in good structural condition. Street facade faced with rustic squared facings and feature arched opening with small turreted features at 2nd floor level eah side of a colonnaded recessed balcony. In detail the building is little altered externally and could be restored to its original elevational state at no great cost. Note: the facade only of the building has been classified. The building forms part of the Murray St East Precinct and part of one of the groups therein.
