History

When Ted Coade established his general store in c1910, he located it on the opposite corner from the hotel, immediately adjacent to the railway railhead and future station. (Just like he did later in Corrigin). This site is where that store was. Later Percy Blake, who managed the store for Coade, bought the store. In .... the Wickepin and Districts Co-operative was formed to provide benefits for all the community, buy having the power to bulk buy. The Co-op altered and expanded over the years. In 1938 the Co-op built facilities for the CWA, which they used until they built their rest rooms in 1952. In 1986 a "Shop local" campaign was launched by the Co-op, to encourage Yealering and Wickepin people to support their local Co-ops as they were experiencing cash flow problems. In an effort to rationalise, the Co-op reduced stock levels, reduced the floor space and reduced the drapery stock. In May 1987 the Co-op went into liquidation., at a special meeting in the Yealering hall. However in June that year the Wickepin community spirit in Wickepin was overwhelming when the community pledged dollars to save the troubled Co-op. In September 1987, a local consortium called "Wogolin Pty Ltd" leased out the Co-op.
