House, 99 Marmion Street is a single storey, timber and Colourbond house designed in the Victorian Georgian style of architecture. The walls are timber framed and clad with replacement board. The roof is hipped and clad with Colourbond. The façade has a central front door. The verandah is supported by timber posts. There is a timber picket fence to the front boundary line. High vegetation prevents further description of the front elevation.
Research via the Fremantle City Council Rate books has revealed that a cottage was built on Lot 1450, now No. 99 Marmion Street, as early as 1903-1904. The lot was originally one of the Government blocks which were developed around that time. The first owner of the property was Edward Thomas Hayes. Further owners include Charles Levy, Charles Steel Berry, Nita Iris Williams (a long term owner covering over 50 years), Shirley Graham, David Denny and finally, the present owner Gregory James Wootton. There is no Fremantle Society classification and no plans evident to 1958. The only plans found were for a garage in 1968 for Mrs Williams. The 1911 PWD Map show a small galvanized iron structure with a back verandah. The 1984 Land Use Survey Plan shows a building similar in position on the lot but enlarged both width wise and length wise. No biographical data was found on any of the owners or occupiers. In 2011 the house was partially destroyed by fire and has since been completely demolished.
High degree of integrity (original intent clear, current use compatible, high long term sustainability). Medium degree of authenticity with some original fabric remaining. (These statements based on street survey only).
