Statement of Significance
The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the Yarloop heritage area. The place demonstrates the standard type of housing provided for mill workers by their employers.
Physical Description
Single storey dwelling of timber framed construction with weatherboard cladding to the lower section and panelled fibre cement sheeting to the upper section of the elevations. The roof is hipped in form with elevated ridge line with vented gablets. The roof extends down to form the verandah canopy, supported on timber columns with filigree brackets, no balustrading and a concrete floor. The façade is symmetrical with timber framed casement windows flanking the centrally placed entrance. Additions to the rear.
History
One of the timber cottages built in the townsite for the accommodation of workers at the workshops. The houses were built predominantly by the company which owned and managed the town, Millar's Timber and Trading Company from the 1890s to the 1970s. The materials for the cottages were likely to have been manufactured in the workshop and local tradesmen built the homes to a standard design. This building survived the January 2016 Yarloop/Harvey/Waroona Fire.
