House, 63 Solomon Street, is a single storey brick and tile house dating from c1950. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Inter-War California Bungalow style of architecture.
House, 63 Solomon Street is a single storey, brick and tile house with an asymmetrical facade designed as an example of the Interwar Californian Bungalow style of architecture. The walls are rendered brick with face brick bands. The roof is hipped and clad with tiles. The front elevation has a central front door flanked on one side by timber framed casement windows, and on the other, the central window has been replaced with a door. The verandah has a separate flat roof with rounded corners and is supported by pairs of decorative steel poles. The house is slightly elevated at street level, and possibly has an understory at the back as the building follows the fall of the land. There is a low rendered wall with face brick capping at the front boundary line and along the driveway. No 63 and No 65 are mirror image house, except for the variation in the verandah rooves.
Solomon Street was originally known as Mary Street. It changed its name in 1951/52 to honour Elias Solomon, a former mayor and MLA. Lots 1, 2 and 3 of 756-757, that is 63 and 65 Solomon Street and 22 Stevens Street (corner lot) were vacant lots as of 1949/50 rate books.
High degree of integrity (original intent clear, current use compatible, high long term sustainability). High degree of authenticity with much original fabric remaining. (These statements based on street survey only).
Condition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).
