The museum was originally the British Arms Hotel, çbuilt to catch trade from the Hannan Street çRailway Station. It was delicensed soon after çthe end of the Great War and after that was used çfor various purposes until acquired by the çGolden Mine Committee. Close to the spot where çPaddy Hannan made his find and almost opposite çthe original Hannan's Reward. The building has a very narrow street frontage çand is two storeys tall. It is built of brick çwith corrugated iron roof. The original bar, çliving quarters and six upstairs guest roms are çnow converted for museum displays.
