The Perth and Tattersalls Bowling and Recreation Club has social value to the local community who use it for sports and recreation and social activities. It has historical associations with the first Perth Bowling Club which was established in 1895. It is a representative example of Bowling clubs in the state. The place enjoys a prime location on the foreshore and has aesthetic value for its surrounds.
Single storey building with large patio and bowling greens.
The first bowling club in Western Australia was established on the Esplanade in 1895 in front of the old Esplanade Hotel (demolished). Lord John Forrest was the inaugural president. In 1910 the pavilion was enlarged to make available an office and council room as headquarters for the WA Bowling Association. In 1962, the Club moved to its present location in time for the 1962 Commonwealth Games. The building was constructed c. 1970. The Tattersalls Club amalgamated with the Perth Bowling Club in the early 1970s, hence the official name of the Club being the Perth and Tattersalls Bowling and Recreation Club. The place is currently home to the Perth Bowling Club, Snooker and Billiards, City of Perth RSL, Perth Naval Association, Perth Rotary, Perth Ladies Darts Association, and the Bridges Hash House Harriers, a social running club.
High level of integrity. High level of authenticity.
