The place has significance for its association with the historic Kanowna townsite (now ghost town) and its continuity of use. The place has significance for its social associations. The place continues to operate as a hall, providing a venue for the local community's social and cultural events. The place is an important element of the streetscape of Barton Street.

The Kalgoorlie Road Board brought the Hall (then known as Kanowna Hall) to Williamstown in 1980. The Hall is currently being used by Mere Te Aroha Inc.
