The site has associations with early construction at Canterbury and New Norcia, and the Clunes.
The site is on the western side of the main road opposite the Canterbury Homestead, along the river fence line, on the east side of the river. Fresh water pool in the river.
The Clune's established Canterbury in close proximity to the river. The freshwater pool in the river was used for watering and swimming in the early days. The mud bricks made from this site were used for the construction of the Canterbury buildings, and some in New Norcia townsite.
