Parakalia has high significance for its association with the pioneering Maley family and has been the homestead on the property for over 90 years. Further the connection with the first medical services of the district adds greater social significance to the place. The building itself is also significant in its own right, given its size, style of construction and use of local materials.
A large white painted rendered stone house with a tiled dutch gable roof with gablets to the east and west The tiled roof extends over the verandah. An arched entrance is graced by turned timber verandah posts. The chimneys are tall and corbelled being situated to the east. Two large phoenix canariensis enhance the south side of the building.
This house was built for Charles Crowther Maley, noted pioneer and benefactor of the Arrino region. Maley was Member for Irwin in the legislative assembly. In 1921 he convinced Dr James McAIeer to come to the Three springs district as resident medical practitioner, a small cottage hospital was established on the Parakalia estate. (Source: Carridena).
