HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT
Timber frame homestead with corrugated iron gable roof extending at shallow pitch over the full length on-ground front verandah, supported in full height timber posts. The external wall cladding is constructed of jarrah weatherboard below window sill height and wide vertical boarding above. The asymmetrically-placed doorway has one wooden sash window on one side and three windows on the other side. A tall free-standing brick chimney adjoins one end of the building. A large timber framed agricultural barn with corrugated iron gable roof and open lean-to roof supported on timber poles occupies a prominent position in a nearby field. Alongside the barn is a towering reinforced concrete cylindrical silo.
Old Nicklup was built by William Clarke for his family in 1849. After some years his wife and three children returned to her original family home at Australind. Later in 1889, Clarke sold his property to James Taylor.
