Statement of Significance

An interesting Cottesloe cottage fronting spacious Napier Street east of the railway line.

Physical Description

This weatherboard cottage has a U shaped pitched roof of iron and a bullnose verandah to the front. An old capped stone wall divides it from the street. Brick corbelled chimney and Edwardian profile weatherboard combined with battered stuccoed piers supporting the verandah roof make for a curious mixture. Double-hung windows have decorative wooden architraves. The verandah floor is cement.

History

In 1905 owned by William Marks, a stevedore. Later a miller at the flour mill and then Blakney McAndrew a stonemason who helped build UWA. Ken and Alice Beecham also lived here. Mr Beecham's 2nd wife Ruby is still alive in 1995 and living in 96 Napier Street, 384 2068.
