The site represents associations with rail transport and the subsequent development of the agricultural industry. It also demostrates a way of life no longer practiced.
The railway line from Wickepin to Corrigin went through Yealering and opened on 8 June 1914 in Yealering. These water tanks pre-date the railway water tank, and were supplied by pumping water from the lake and swamps before the railway dam was constructed in 1932.
