26090 Holland/Forrest Street Heritage Area
House, 128 Holland Street is a single storey timber and iron house constructed as a late example of the Victorian Georgian of Architecture. The walls are timber framed and clad with timber weatherboards. The roof is gabled and corrugated iron clad. The front verandah is under a separate corrugated iron bullnose roof. The verandah is supported by timber posts with a timber balustrade. The symmetrical façade has a central entry door and timber double hung windows symmetrically placed either side of the central door.
Lot 1135, the land on which House 128 Holland Street stands was vacant in 1912/14 and classed as a government reserve. In 1913/14 a cottage was built on the land for George Thomas Rowell. Rowell and his family lived and owned the house until 1923/24 when ownership the passed to Ernest Barnfield. The house was originally number 205, and became number 128 when the whole street was renumbered in 1937. The 1911 sewerage map (No. 2133; revised later) shows a weatherboard house with a front verandah and a chimney on the east side. There is a timber outbuilding on the east side of the lot. The house was sold by Barnfield in 1933 to Muriel and Frederick Walter who lived there until the late 1970s. Aerial photos show that between 1995 and 1995 the lot was subdivided and another house built at the rear.
