Statement of Significance

The place has historic value for its association with the early development of a water supply in Leonora.

Physical Description

The tank is sited on the Leonora Hill, overlooking the town of Leonora. The tank is constructed of stone walls, with some brickwork, that is heavily buttressed. A flat ribbed metal roof is a later addition. A ladder for access is on one side of the tank.

History

To overcome the problem of water shortages, Station Creek was dammed and water piped to Mount George and Tank Hill reservoirs. This structure is one of these reservoirs. (It is unclear when this took place as sources vary between 1903 and 1907. Further research is needed to clarify this date.) This building may be part of the tank and stone elevation that was built by W. Snell for the fire brigade. It is unclear whether that structure was built in town behind Snell's premises or on Leonora Hill
