17951 Wanneroo Road Group
Wanneroo War Memorial has historical and social significance as a structure commemorating the contribution of servicemen and women from the Wanneroo district in World War I, World War II, Korea, Malaya and Vietnam.
Located outside the former Shire of Wanneroo offices. The granite stone oblelisk is sits on a brick plinth and paving. The plaques read; "In memory of the soldiers of the Wanneroo District who paid the supreme sacrifice in the Great War 1914 to 1919. Lest We Forget. In memory of the soldiers of the Wanneroo District who paid the supreme sacrifice in the World War 1939 to 1945. Lest We Forget. In memory of those who gave their lives: Great War 1914 to 1918, World War 1939 to 1945, Korea 1950 to 1953, Malaya 1948 to 1960, Borneo 1962 to 1966, Vietnam 1962 to 1972." There are twelve local veterans listed on the memorial from World War 1.(http://www.anzac.dpc.wa.gov.au)
Sited in the grounds of the Community Centre, the Memorial depicts the names of Wanneroo men killed in WW1 & WW2. One of those named in the WW2 list, Albert B.Facey, was the eldest son of A.B.Facey, Author of' A Fortunate Life'.
