The place is of architectural significance because it is an excellent example of a large brick residence set on high ground overlooking the ocean. It is the only building in Cottesloe to make such a strong play on doric columns and balustrading. The building's use of doric columns and balustrading is of architectural significance and is unmatched in the town of Cottesloe. Its setting on high ground overlooking the ocean is of further significance.
This large house was once owned by Mr Barsden a solicitor of note in the early days of Cottesloe. The house is now (1979) being enlarged by its present owners. It is of white rendered brick and has Doric columns and balustrading surrounding its verandah rooflines. Large windows and french doors lead out onto the wide verandahs which are shaded by lattice infills on the western side. The house, probably dating from post World War 1 is bounded on two sides by pine trees.
Assessment 1979, recent additions and alterations are excluded Construction circa 1910, additions 1978
