The site is a prominent natural feature of the landscape
A granite hill located to the west of the larger Kenine Hill
Nearby is a well also known as Kunmallup both derive their origin from the Aboriginal work 'Kumal' (brush tail possum). The rich red loam around the hill resulted in it becoming an early settlement site taken up by Owen Hale. Later owners were William Knott (1880's), his widow Mrs MacDonald, EC Leggoe (1914-1918), EB Anderson, AH Dickson, Schmidt, E Forbes, R Parker, Flanagan, Jackson and Fowler brothers and H Thomson. When purchased by Leggoe, "Kunmallup" was a small property of about 700 acres, 200 acres being around the homestead and east in amongst the hills and 500 acres of plan towards the Beaufort River. By the time of sale by Leggoe to his partner EB Anderson of Katanning it totalled 11,000 acres. On the land between the hills and on the hill slopes the native jam tree (acacia acuminata) flourished. Thousands of fence posts were cut from the jam thickets of the Kunmallup and Kenine Hills during Leggoe's era of clearing and fencing. When the Fowler brothers from Williams bought the farm it was still nearly all bush. They embarked on a massive land clearing programme which turned the land into one of the finest subterranean clover areas in the State. However in a few years much of it became affected by salinity.
