Ellis Creek Timber Mill Site is significant to the history of the timber industry in the south west of Western Australia and to the history of settlement of the region.
The Ellis Creek Timber Mill site includes remnants of its former use including the dam, a cricket pitch and remnants of machinery including the vertical band saw. The site is located on land managed by Department of Parks & Wildlife.
Ellis Creek Timber Mill was established in 1913 by the Kauri Timber Company. The mill used a vertical band saw for breaking logs. It was established on the American model and was capable of an output of 30,000 super feet per day. The mill was relocated to Nannup in 1926.
An archaeological investigation of the site is highly recommended particularly as remnants of original industrial equipment are evident on the site.
