Statement of Significance

Brookview is architecturally significant for its traditional design and for the outstanding quality of the brickwork, meticulously done in decorative Flemish bond. Although Harry Cain is only known to have been involved with a small number of other buildings, he undoubtedly had an influence on the standard and style of brickwork in the area.

Physical Description

The original section of the house built in 1886 by Harry Cain, a brick maker by trade, has some handsome brickwork still in excellent condition. Originally lined with pug and covered with a shingle roof, it now has a corrugated iron roof. Still in existence is an equally well constructed brick well which until very recently yielded very good water. An asbestos kitchen has been added at the rear of the house and has not been included in the assessment.
