The Bank of New South Wales was the first and only official purpose built bank Cranbrook has ever had. Originally it was a two-roomed weatherboard building which was shifted to the present location on the corner of Gathorne and Gordon Road in 1936. The weatherboard building is now part of the residence behind the Gillamii Centre. The present brick building was built in 1940 for the Bank and it included a manager's residence.
The bank is a substantial red brick structure, built on a corner block. It has wooden framed windows and a corrugated iron roof. It has changed little since its erection in 1940.
