The Irwin Recreation Centre has social significance given its role as a centre of sports and social activities in the district.
2004 Located to the north-east of the Bowling Club, the Recreation Centre is a large steel framed building with a skillion asbestos roof which extends to form a verandah to the north. A small verandah is attached to the west, both are supported on concrete pillars. The centre of the skillion roof has a second raised low pitched gable roof which covers the basketball court. The building is brick clad with aluminium windows and doors to the lower level, the upper level has ‘super-six’ cladding. 2004 The building and grounds are maintained by the Shire of Irwin. A BMX Track and Skate Park have been constructed to the southwest of the complex.
Built in 1984 to accommodate sporting facilities for the town, it caters for badminton, basket ball and squash. The Recreation Centre is also home of the Dongara Football Club and the Dongara Eagles football team. (Source: IDHS Records)
